Three Weeks in the Books

Well this past weekend marks our third weekend within the game Defiance.  We’ve gotten a long way in three short weeks.

My wife and I both have finished the main story line and all the side missions.  We’ve still got a rather long laundry list of pursuits to complete.

I thought in my continued efforts to provide an alternative viewpoint on the game and it’s value I’d offer another review of my current views of pros and cons for the game after logging a ton of game time.

Pvp Build Synergy: Cloak + Pumped Up + Sawed Off Shotguns

So this weekend I started dabbling in PVP.  First I have to say that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.  I personally love the death matches.  Which is essentially a paint ball park style team versus team style map with no map objectives other than to get kills and avoid being killed.  The quick and brutal combat of one and done combat also makes it a bit more enjoyable though having to watch your killer walk around for a few seconds after your death is less than gratifying.

My very first build utilized some research I did that appears to be a bit out dated.  It centered around the Ego Talent “Pumped Up” and using a Sawed Off Shotgun.

Episode Review: The Bride Wore Black

Rafe walking his daughter down the isle.

Rafe walking his daughter down the isle.

I apologize for this review being posted late.  My plan was to post it on Tuesday after watching the latest episode however a massive power outage across most of the coast of California on Sunday evening fried my cable box.  I was not able to watch the episode until last night when it became available on Amazon.  I send a huge middle finger to the harbingers of fate.

As with all my episode reviews the review may contain spoilers for the episode.  If you do not with to read spoilers do not continue to read this post!

In the Crosshairs: Ambush

I’m starting a new blog feature called ‘In the Cross ‘ and in these posts I will be going in depth and looking at specific perks to provide insight into just what makes a perk good, bad, or ugly depending on content and your play style.  The first perk I will be looking at today is ‘Ambush’.

You deal more critical damage to enemies that are not engaged in combat.  The ability starts with a 3% crit multiplier and with 3 ego points can be upgraded to 9% multiplier.

Hook Line and Sinker

This past week my wife and had been Ill and we were forced to be in the house all day over a three day weekend from work.  We’ve been playing World of Warcraft pretty religiously for the past several years (read as since launch) and we found ourselves with time to play but absolutely no motivation to do so.

We’ve been watching the show on SyFy since it was launched earlier this year and we were aware of the game side IP but we hadn’t really taken a serious look at it.

Upon further investigation we noted that the game was free to play once you made the initial investment in the game itself.  This model was something that has appealed to us in the past with games like Guild Wars 2.

We’d read ALOT of bad press about the game from the launch and that press had dissuaded us from trying the game sooner but the F2P model coupled with our dying interest in WoW made a $50 investment a worthwhile gamble even if we didn’t have much background with shooters.

A few clicks on Amazon later, a very quick download and install and we were both running around in this new but familiar world.
